My layman’s understanding is that manufacturing like this needs to be run constantly due to the cost associated with the production. Apple would have to sell their stuff to competitors at that point to have the foray make sense. Current manufacturers can make things for lots of different companies so they can ensure their line is always fulfilling an order. I’m not sure if Apple would want to do that.

It really only makes sense if you buy a new phone or computer every year/lease term.

This is good though, so it might not be that bad of a deal if you could use the credit anyway:

Buy the iPhone outright by paying an amount equal to the device’s retail price minus any lease payments made.

I don’t generally click on random YouTube videos unless more information is provided, but I give this one a gamble. It was pretty well done and I appreciate the creators overall point and evidence. For anyone else in the comments, I think there are two couple of second long clips of Hank Green that are used to make a larger point about what are essentially attempts at normalizing AI.

I don’t browse Reddit since I switched entirely to Lemmy the day the API migration happened, but I did still reluctantly have to reference reddit on occasion. Now I can’t even do that for niche issues I run into. I am so upset that millions of people donated their time and energy into making Reddit the place it was just to have all of that entirely gated off. I know we’re likely all in the same boat, but there really are no words for what spez did. He ruined a really great place for community and knowledge and turned it into a slop fest.

I certainly didn’t mean to indicate csuite went to jail or anything, but it’s fair to disagree with my classification. I’m not super involved with that sort of thing. Will edit my comment to reflect that so that no one takes away the wrong thing.

I’m totally open to the idea that higher ups got away with a lot. They tend to, and likely even in this case where people are doing time they still got off way too lightly.

Seems like senior managers and directors. I don’t think these are fall guys. They seem like they were personally responsible for these things. I know corpo speak invents fancy job titles, but I don’t think it’s a situation where someone’s personal assistant is being used as a scapegoat. These people should have known better and had other options. I did see that one upper exec had to pay but I didn’t see any outline for what exactly they were charged with. I wish the articles did a better job of going into the details of punishments vs charges but I was just pointing out that actual time is being done since the title doesn’t mention it.

Most of the defendants pleaded guilty to charges including conspiracy and cyberstalking and were later sentenced to prison terms or home confinement.

The above includes several management and director positions. Glad individuals are being held responsible. Hope they are radioactive to companies going forward. As pointed out below, execs at the highest level are not doing time for this though.

This is my take as well. I will add that I think I’m more likely to notice an issue with the type if the type is first though since it preps me to expect a certain thing after it.

int firstName will likely trigger more alarms than firstName int but maybe thats just my perception due to familiarity. I feel like once I see the type my mind is looking to make the next part make sense whereas if I see the name first then I just assume what comes next makes sense and mentally move on.
