For a project I liked I saw that the translation of the UI was only about 1% complete for my native language. I decided to dedicate the weekend to get it above 95%. This was apparently the part that seemed too hard for most to make a dent in, but across several new versions my language is still 100%. I think my groundwork made it easier for some sporadic contributors to get a small bit of dopamine when updating the few new strings in a release to see it hit 100% again.

The server currently runs on 32gig but I was planning on upgrading to 64 or 128gig DDR5. Could go as low as 16 if need be, but the the price is still hurting more than having to reboot 2-4 times a month.

Only thing I wish for Christmas is to be able to replace the RAM and mobo in one of my servers. It is failing with a kernel panic about once a week and it is an old DDR3 platform I planned to upgrade back in January. I have isolated the issue to a hardware fault but left without a solution…

Danish here: This isn’t exactly a foreign concept. All of my project exams in University had a written part (ranging from 50-150 pages), sometimes a technical part, and then an oral part where we defended the report. That’s one per semester.

Defending an essay would likely not take more than 15min, 3-4 hours was enough to probe a group of 7 to figure out who should get what grade based on contribution (or lack thereof if they just rode the other’s coattails). 5min to present the essay with a short summary, 5min for questions to probe the student, and 5 minutes for buffer.

I could even see this be used as a combined written/oral exam where you get a grade for both in a language class. If the essay is shit but your oral articulation in the foreign language is excellent then you could get top grade orally while failing on the written exam part. That means no actual loss of time.

The hard part is that most grades in our version of high school (gymnasium) are based on the teacher’s observations of your abilities in class. It is only some classes that are randomly selected for a end-of-year exam to save time. This idea about defending an essay wouldn’t work in the rest of the classes.

Euria is hosted by Infomaniak. I’m not sure they tell what model they use but given the few times I saw a random Chinese character in the output I’d guess it isn’t an American model.

They also have a pay per token model that you can hook up to everything, that one’s just quite expensive for normal chat use, but at least you select the model you want to use.

Denmark here. Both MobilePay (a national phone payment app that works for private to private where you just send to a phone number and in place of credit card payment in shops and webshops) and MitID (national authentication app used for logging in to everything regarding public services and quite a few private services too) have severe problems outside of Play Integrity. MitID straight up doesn’t work and MobilePay fails an integrity check once in a while forcing a reinstall.

These two apps are integral to life in Denmark. MobilePay has no backup measure but MitID has physical code viewers you can get. But that is not something the common user would go out of their way go figure out.

That’s why NIS2 in Europe demands that OT is on a separate network from IT. My old workplace (well, the head of FO Technology and his gang anyway) was up in arms about it because it “was a waste of time” (and completely ruin the ideal architecture he had in his mind).
