Id only want one to take the drivetrain or batteries out of. I bet that happens to a lot of them.

Ok I was wondering if the one I heard creaking by me the other day was an anomaly. There are two locally and they both have squeaky suspension.

I have an “old” electric car. (2018 Leaf) I’ve noticed some of the issues you allude to.

There is a Nissan app that doesn’t work for the car anymore, because the car has a 3G cellular radio in it, and there just aren’t many, if any, remaining 2g/3g towers. It does have android auto, which so far I don’t care for, but that’s probably a skill issue. The car has navigation, but the maps are out of date and Nissan isn’t offering updates anymore. It has Sirius XM, and I think I could just turn on the subscription and it would work. Lastly, the “rapid charge” port on the car is a CHAdeMo port, and there are fewer of those than NACS or CCS.

Outside of those things, the car works like any other EV. All menus and screens operate and all the accessories work.

Whether or not something will last as a “classic car” depends on the same thing as it always has: the number of weirdos interested in that car. There aren’t huge groups of people trying to keep Chevy Chevettes or AMC Concords alive, but there are huge online communities and even some cottage industries that have risen up around things like Jeeps, Suzuki Samurais, air-cooled Volkswagens, old BMW’s, and yes, Nissan Leafs.

I bought an EV recently, and Ive been asked a few times why I didn’t get a Tesla. There’s a wide range of reasons but the one that’s the most fun to say is “I wanted a car made by a real car company”.

I can’t believe that batteries using sodium and iron and NOT using nickel, copper, or cobalt are being mass produced and its not bigger news.

There are also scanners that detect the identifiers being broadcast by your TPMS system.

Its not mandated here in Oklahoma of course, but a lot of people are starting to commute on scooters and e-bikes. I don’t know if this is because of gas being too expensive or cars being too expensive.

I used to have a snall truck with seperate high and low beam bulbs. I installed normal halogens for the low beams, and I did something similar. It was fun. And it helped me spot deer along dark highways.

I have an EV that predates the external white noise requirement, it’s weirdly quiet if the AC is off.

I love how quiet it is. But I wish it didn’t startle cyclists.

Edit: someone at work gave me a deck of cards and a clothespin and said it was a “loud exhaust” for my car. 😆

The bodyguard thing makes me wonder.

More and more of these guys will want protection. They will likely hire this protection. And as more protection is needed, vetting the people that provide that protection will become less strict.

And sooner or later, you have someone with a gun and a motive walking right beside Bob the Billionaire.
