I do use this some times for pair programming. Share screen over a teams call and share mouse permission. But I do this on windows. I’ve never done this on linux with (or without) wayland, but now I’m curious.

I do miss the two-player mode of Lemmings on the Amiga. Amiga could support a mouse in every port, so you could both use a mouse while battling each other. One player needing to use a joystick on ‘every other platform’ (which for Lemmings, was every other platform in existence at the time) was vastly inferior.

Basically every other computer either only supported one mouse, or all mice moved the same pointer.

Not saying that this is a generally useful feature, and networking has improved to the point where split-screen games are rare, and in an era where most games have console ports then mouse-control multiplayer games are unusual, but you know. Niche usages.

Fun fact: Settlers 2 on MsDOS was one of the few, and maybe even only game on PC to have dual mouse support for local multi-player.

Xorg servers starting from version 1.7 have a feature called “multi-pointer”. Basically it allows to have multiple mouse cursors (each with its own keyboard focus) on the screen and control them with separate physical input devices

1.7 was released in 2009.

Really old software had feature long time ago, new software has it now. Somebody 17 years from now is going to respond to post about multiple cursor support in nowaydudeland with “Wayland got had this in 2026”

And another person will respond “but we’re not talking about Wayland…”

Steam Decks have two touchpads. They are incredibly useful with Steam’s virtual keyboard where you essentially controll two cursors with them for each side of the keyboard.

Having this functionality with every virtual keyboard would be great.

This is very off topic, but seeing the images associated with the article jogged my memory.

I watch a Youtube channel called “Hand Tool Rescue” and one of the things he was fixing was a sprinkler, and near the end he is tightening the spray part back on, holding it still with his two hands, and a third hand slowly moves into frame between his two other hands and tightens the spray part and I spit tea all over the floor.

I don’t know why it caught me so darn funny, but I laughed for like 10 minutes, it was awesome. Anyway, everyone should give him a watch, and plus, he’s Canadian so 👍

So… Which games just got more awesome to play over steam remote play with your friends? I believe there are a couple that are better to control with m&kb but I can’t remember any right now.
