yes, having an Atmosphere OS with native ATProto account support is extremely cool and all but

at the end of the day the only practical difference from an app-based solution is that you for some reason solidify that as a part of the OS that is way harder to modify or configure

my room-temperature take is that you don't need a custom ROM to do this

the same end result can be accomplished on stock android with an on-device "account vault" style app using a common API to communicate with other apps that support that SSO schema, no system access or custom ROM required

to elaborate on this a bit more

my phone OS has no big single account with a profile picture at the top of the settings list

it has an Accounts section, where each app can do its own thing, and google is just one if the items in the list (email hidden for privacy)

that's how it should be

in short, i don't believe that your OS needs an identity layer in the first place

leave that job to the apps running on top of the OS, don't lock users' choice into a single set of valid options
