They’ve been trying to build that, and they even demo’d a prototype after spending a few billion, but it was too expensive to sell.
Slim AR displays are science fiction technology, and the best they can do right now is still quite limited compared to passthrough VR. They can’t hit nearly the same FOV or resolution yet in transparent displays, you either get readable text or a wide FOV, but not both. There’s a reason Google Glass was only a tiny thing in the corner of your vision.

The water they’re evaporating is not the same water flowing through servers. There would be a heat exchanger so that all the anti-corrosion additives stay in the closed loop side.

Any additives at all in the evaporative side would just get concentrated more and more as water evaporates. Pure distilled water would be ideal since there would be no residue to periodically clean, but at the scale they need it, they basically have to use lightly filtered river water as far as I know.

Since I already host a bunch of stuff, it hasn’t been a big burden for me. I get to laugh any time one of the popular instances goes down or has some admin/mod controversy, but the tradeoff is I have to manually subscribe to everything since I don’t have an “All”.

I mostly did it because this is the only way to truly own your lemmy identity. I hope one day it will be possible to link accounts on different instances together so that migrating doesn’t lose your history.

The exact quote is

“the propulsion force generated was less than the motor would have generated if it had been connected to a standard marine propeller.”

Based on that, the input power is a constant because they are comparing against the same motor. I would assume the power consumption is constant rather than bursty for either propulsion system, so there isn’t any peak-vs-avg power to be concerned about either.
